SCISSORS

Mayo Straight- Used to cut suture and supplies Mayo Curved- Used to cut heavy tissue (fascia, muscle, uterus, breast). Metzenbaum- Used to cut delicate tissue.

CLAMPING and OCCLUDING


Mosquito- Used to clamp small blood vessels Kelly- Used to clamp larger vessels and tissues Adson Forceps- Used to clamp deep blood vessels

GRASPING and HOLDING


Allis- Used to grasp tissue. Babcock- Used to grasp delicate tissue (intestine, fallopian tube, and ovary) Kocher- Used to grasp heavy tissue Towel Clip- Used to hold towels and drapes Thumb Forceps- Used to grasp tough tissue (fascia, breast) Needle Holder- Used to hold needle when suturing

RETRACTING and EXPOSING INSTRUMENTS


Deaver retractor (manual) is used to retract deep abdominal or chest incisions Richardson retractor (manual) is used to retract deep abdominal or chest incisions Army-Navy retractor (manual) is used to retract shallow or superficial incisions Malleable or ribbon retractor (manual) is used to retract deep wounds. Balfour with bladder blade (self-retaining) is used to retract wound edges during deep abdominal procedures.
