Edexcel C4 Mathematics Marking Guide

This marking guide provides concise solutions and indicates how marks could be awarded for the Core Mathematics C4 Paper J. [1] It outlines the marking scheme, awarding method marks for using the correct method and accuracy marks for obtaining the correct solution. [2] Summaries of the solutions to 6 sample problems are provided, with the marks broken down by method, accuracy, and independent marks. [3] The solutions aim to help teachers clearly understand how to apply the marking scheme to students' work.

MARKING GUIDE

This guide is intended to be as helpful as possible to teachers by providing

concise solutions and indicating how marks could be awarded. There are
obviously alternative methods that would also gain full marks.

Method marks (M) are awarded for knowing and using a method.

Accuracy marks (A) can only be awarded when a correct method has been used.

(B) marks are independent of method marks.
