AIM:
In this project we design dual converter with
SCR switches and with resistive load. Instead of
employing analog R, RC, and UJT triggering circuits, we
employ 8051 microcontroller based firing circuit to
generate gate pulses for the SCR switches to control the
system digitally.
INTRODUCTION
DUAL CONVERTER
When two full converters are connected back to
back to the load circuit in antiparallel it is called a Dual
Converter.
It can handle the Four –Quadrant operation.

ZERO CROSSING DETECTORS
Zero crossing detectors are used to convert sine wave or other signal into square-
wave, the output should be low if the input is negative and high if the input if positive.

Single Phase Dual Converter
Non circulating dual converter:
Merits:
The cost of operation is less.
Efficiency is high.
Demerits:
Since no reactor required, any faults occurred during operation may
damage the circuit.
Loss of control for a very short duration may be possible.
Applications of single-phase dual converters:
A single –phase dual converter can be used to achieve plugging
(dynamic breaking) and speed reversal of dc motor.
A dual converter can be used to reverse the speed of a dc motor.
Regenerating breaking can also achieved by a dual converter.
FURTHER SCOPE:
As this project is concerned with
dual converter with microcontroller controlled firing
circuit. In this project, the user required voltage can
be obtained by selecting the appropriate push button
manually. In this project a resistor is connected across
the dual converter. Further it can be extended for the
speed control of DC motor.
CONCLUSION
In this project the R-Load is controlled by
feeding it from a dual converter using 8051
Microcontroller. The project deals with operation of
R-Load in two quadrants(i.e. 1st and 3rd quadrants).
This technique is advantageous and efficient for most
of the high power applications.
