Thinking Process

The document discusses various thinking process tools used to analyze problems and propose solutions, including: the Current Reality Tree (CRT) to identify root causes; the Future Reality Tree (FRT) to validate proposed solutions; and the Evaporating Cloud, Core Conflict Cloud, Negative Branch Reservation, Prerequisite Tree, and Transition Tree to address different aspects of the thinking process. It provides examples of how these tools are applied to problems in areas like product design and organizational change.

Thinking process used in product designing

The thinking process was oriented by DR.ELIYAHU
GOLDRATT TOM.

It is a mechanism that allows us to verbalize, construct,

analyze, and communicate cause and effect relationships to
propose feasible solutions to the problems.
Thinking process is needed to stop the failure of
organizations, by giving the answer of:

WHAT TO CHANGE?

WHAT TO CHANGE TO?

HOW TO MAKE CHANGE?

There are seven tools used in thinking process.
These are:
Current reality tree
Evaporating Cloud
Core Conflict Cloud
Future Reality Tree
Negative Branch Reservations
Prerequisite Tree
Transition Tree
A Current Reality Tree (CRT) is a way of analyzing
many system or organizational problems at once. By
identifying root causes common to most or all of the
problems, the CRT can greatly aid focused
improvement of the system.

A future reality tree allow us to test the future outcome, using
known cause and effect to check that what we want is what
we will get.

The Future Reality Tree is the validation that a collection of

injections will turn all of the UDE’s into DE’s

The Evaporating Cloud is used to address the question

What to Change to….

The Evaporating Cloud is suited to finding a solution to conflict
between two parties or two points of view. The method requires the
participants to find 'win-win' solutions because it emphasizes that
both parties are trying to reach the same ultimate goal.

Core conflict cloud is looking for deeper conflicts that create
the undesirable effects.
It does this by combining the positive aspects of both tools;
Current realty tree – shows the core problem as the
source of many undesirable effects.

Cloud – shows the core problem is not the product of any

one person.

A negative branch reservation is a cause and effect analysis
that proves how one entity leads to a negative outcome.
In the language of the Thinking Processes, a Reservation
exists that if we act on an injection in the
Future Reality tree, there will result a Branch that leads
to an undesirable, Negative result. Hence it is called the
"Negative Branch Reservation" or NBR.
It is the tree that allows us to overcome the obstacles that
stop us from implementing our plan.
