VLSM Addressing for CCNA Students

The document provides a scenario requiring the creation of an IP addressing scheme using VLSM for a network with 60 hosts divided between 4 subnetworks of 25, 25, 10, and 60 hosts connected by routers. It asks the reader to determine the network addresses and subnet masks for each subnetwork and WAN link using the Class C address of 195.30.18.0 while conserving addresses.

VLSM Exercise 2

60 hosts
A

B C D

25 hosts 25 hosts 10 hosts

Objective

Create an addressing scheme using variable length subnet masking (VLSM).

Scenario

The assignment is the Class C address 195.30.18.0 and it must support the network shown
in the diagram. The use of IP unnumbered or NAT is not permitted on this network. Create
an addressing scheme that meets the requirements shown in the diagram.

Step 1

1. How many host are on the largest LAN?

2. How many host bits are needed to support the requirements of the largest LAN?

Step 2

Using VLSM, subnet the network address 195.30.18.0 according the largest LAN.
Step 3

Use VLSM to further subnet the addresses to best fit the needs of the other LANs and WAN

links. Conserve address space wherever possible.

1. What is the network address and subnet mask for the network attached to router A?

Network Address: ________________________________________

Subnet Mask: ________________________________________

2. What is the network address and subnet mask for the network attached to router B?

Network Address: ________________________________________

Subnet Mask: ________________________________________

3. What is the network address and subnet mask for the network attached to router C?

Network Address: ________________________________________

Subnet Mask: ________________________________________

4. What is the network address and subnet mask for the network attached to router D?

Network Address: ________________________________________

Subnet Mask: ________________________________________

5. What is the network address and subnet mask for the WAN link between router A and

B?

Network Address: ________________________________________

Subnet Mask: ________________________________________

6. What is the network address and subnet mask for the WAN link between router A and

C?

Network Address: ________________________________________

Subnet Mask: ________________________________________

7. What is the network address and subnet mask for the WAN link between router A and

D?

Network Address: ________________________________________

Subnet Mask: ________________________________________
