Reflections
Reflection 1: (science covering of the animals)
At 8:00AM, I start my first lesson in this TP which was about the covering of the animals. I start
the usual routine that my MST do it for them which is greeting and reading Quran before stating
the lesson. Then, I start my lesson buy singing the days of the week song. Children were able to
sing the days of the week song however, they didnt know about the rhythm of the song because I
didnt teach them the song. After that, I ask children about the theme of this week. I asked them to
give me names of baby animals since it was the theme of the week and I wanted from them to
remember the theme of the week. Children respond to me positively and they used their cognitive
skills in order to remember the name of baby animals that they took it before. Once I finished, I
start teaching. I illustrate for children video about the animals in order to let them see the reality
and connected with the lesson. The children observed the video and they were interested to know
about animals since I noticed that they were asking me a lot of questions. After that, I start my first
activity. I showed children a box and inside the box I put different animals that have different
covering of the body. I asked them questions about the name of the animals and what is the name
of the covering their body. Children were engaged in using their mental skills in order to participate
and find the answers. I created another activity. I displayed pictures for children about different
animals. I asked them to classified the animals together according to their body covering. It was
an effective activity for them because they were able to name the different types of the covering
of the animals. After that, I asked them to do their activities in their areas. During the activity time,
the things that went well in my teaching in my instruction and my praise for them. I notice that
when I praise children who did a good job other children try to copy what that child did. Moreover,
my instruction was extremely clear so they understand the tasks that they have to do. The thing
that did not went well is my management. I could not manage the children. When some boys start
to talk, I did not know how to make them quiet and pay attention. In order to improve that, I should
deal with them strongly and change their places if they did not stop talking.
Reflection 2: (Math pattern)
At 9:00AM, I taught a lesson for my children about math specifically pattern. From my last
teaching, I tried to learn from my mistakes and improve my teaching way for children. I sing with
children the morning song and do some movement. Them, I greet them. I asked them about the
days of the week. Then, I start teaching the pattern. First, I showed them a video about the pattern.
Then, I asked them to tell me what they can see in the video that have pattern and what is the
repeated thing that they saw in the video. Some children tell me rights but others did not know.
After that, I make a little activity with all of them. This activity called making pattern of balloons.
I provided numerous balloons with different colors. First, I explained for them the meaning of
pattern by doing an example from these balloons such as red balloon, yellow balloon, red balloon,
yellow balloon etc. After they understand, I let them to make their own pattern by choosing one of
them to stand in front of other children, and make the pattern. This activity was individually. Some
children did the activity quickly and other didnt understand it. When we finished this game, I gave
them another activity to make sure that they understand the concept of pattern before they do the
activities. I created a PowerPoint. I put many patterns using numbers, letters, colors, shapes or
objects. I divided children into 2 groups. I gave them a bell. I showed them a missing pattern and
they have to complete it. The first group rang the bell had the right to answer. Children were happy
and interesting from this activity and that improved their emotional aspect. Once we finished I let
them apply the differentiation activities. The thing that went well is my instruction. I gave them a
clear instructions supporting with examples to make the activities clear for them. I knew that
because all children understand my activities and do it successfully. In contrast, the thing that went
wrong is my management. I lose the management control of the classroom when we went from
the activity 1 to the activity 2. In order to improve that, I should make special techniques when its
transition time such as ringing a bell, sing a song or signs.
Reflection 3: (English letter L)
I taught a lesson for children who are in KG2 C about letter L. I managed my time by starting the
lesson with warming up the children singing the days of the week song. This helped children to
prepare their mental aspect for the lesson, which created positive atmosphere to practice in
singing the days of the week. Then, I explained the lesson for children. I taught about the letter L.
at the beginning the let children to sing the alphabetical song. They were able to sing the song
correctly. Then, I bring a box with different objects that start with letter l. they were able to answer
all my questions. They knew the sound of the letter l as well. then I applied my activity which is
classifying objects with letter L together. I illustrated for students video song about the letter L.
This video is encompassing objects that start with letter L. Children sang and observed carefully
of the letter L objects. Next, I gave children flashcard. Some card has letter L object that was
shown in the video while others not. Children engaged in the activity by classifying the letter L
objects together. This activity is for whole group by children will apply it independently and
individually. Once I finished, I moved the children to do the differentiation activities by their own.
Finally, I evaluated them to make sure that they understand and acquire the knowledge.
If I taught this lesson again, I would do the same strategy that I apply during the lesson. This
strategy is prize. I believe that prize strategy is an effective and fundamental way to control
childrens behavior in the classroom. According to the theorist Skinner, He assumed that children
would do the good behavior when we reinforce that behavior by praising and rewarding them. The
reason why I want to apply this strategy when I teach the lesson again is that prizing children will
make childrens self-esteem high and increase their emotional aspect. Other children tried to
imitate the good behavior instead of bad behavior in order to be stickers. These stickers can
visually remind young children of their achievements, which will promote them to keep the
positive behavior and participate during the lesson. If I will teach this lesson again, I would
improve my way in giving instruction for children. Giving instruction is very significant because
that can lead children to do anything in a right way. When I was explaining the different activities
for children, they did not understand what they have to do. I did not deliver the concept of the
activities because I did not illustrate for them a clear sample to understand what they have to do.
Reflection 4: (Math rectangle)
On Monday, I taught a math lesson for students which was about the rectangle shape. I start my
lesson by my regular routine including the good morning song and days of the week. I think that
giving children a specific routine that they follow it every day is extremely beneficial for their
emotional aspect. They have expectation of what they will do each day. That will lead to make
them comfortable and secure. As what the theorist Krashen said that when children feel happy and
comfortable, they would learn quickly. Thus, the routine is the key for childrens education. After
doing the routine, I started my lesson by showing children a video about rectangle shape. I sang
with children. I taught them about the name of the shape, the features of the rectangle and the
correct way to draw it. Once I finished teaching, I applied my activity which is searching for
rectangle shapes. After showing children the video about rectangle, I put pictures in the
PowerPoint, which are full of shapes including circle, triangle square and rectangle. They have to
point only on the rectangle shape. I asked each child individually to search the rectangle in the
picture and point at it. Children were actively participating with me. All of them understand the
shape rectangle. They can recognize it from other shapes. After finishing teaching on the mat, I
moved them to do the different activities by their own. The reason why I gave children different
activities for each level is because that I wanted from them to be more in depending on themselves.
I gave them the basic information so they will complete learning by doing individually. I observed
and asked them during the activities. Finally, I evaluate them to check if they understand.
If I will teach this lesson again, I would like to do one strategy that I did which is exercise. Before
I started my lesson, I did some exercise with children because I wanted from them to be full of
vigor and vitality during the lesson. I believe that when children do exercise before they start the
lesson, their mind will be open and fresh. Thus, they will be more concentrate when I will teach
them. Whereas, if children did not do exercise, their mind will not be preparing for the lesson.
They will be sleepy instead of being concentrating with me. Additionally, doing exercise will
improve their gross and fine motor skills when they move their whole body and fingers. They
enjoyed doing exercise since they were participating in releasing their energy. On the other hand,
I have weakness that I want to change it in different way. I want to do my transition differently in
the next time. My transition was poor. I used a bell as a transition method. I told children that when
I will ring the bell, they have to stand in line and move to the different areas in the classroom.
However, when I rang the bell, they automatically ran to the areas. It was completely unorganized.
Through my evaluation to the students, it shows me that I achieved my learning outcomes
successfully. When I was evaluating them, most of the children understand the features of the
rectangle. I faced some struggle in managing children and using transition but the most important
is that at the end of the lesson, most children acquire the right knowledge in my lesson. That made
me happy. Furthermore, my lesson was successful since I achieved my learning outcomes. I
finished at the time and I gave children all the activities that I planned before the time of the lesson
end. I will try to improve my way in teaching and change my weaknesses to be my strength.
Reflection 5: (Science healthy and unhealthy foods)
On Tuesday, I taught a lesson for children about the healthy and unhealthy food. I did my regular
routine, which was greeting children, singing good morning song and review the days of the week.
Children were participating with me that shows me that they were comfortable and happy since
they were expected of what they will do with me. According to Krashen who is a behavioral
theorist, he mentioned that when children feel comfortable and secure, they would learn positively.
Thus, that shows me that they will learn the lesson positively. After I finished my routine, I start
my lesson by warming up. I turned on a song about the healthy and unhealthy foods. Children sang
with me. Then, I asked children to tell me what healthy food that they saw. After that, I brought a
plastic fruits, vegetables and unhealthy foods. I asked them to classify between them. That will
make children aware of the kind of healthy foods. Next, I asked a children one by one to come in
front of other kids. I gave that child a picture of whether healthy or unhealthy food. Then, that
child tell some features of that food while other children were guessing what is that food and tell
if its healthy or unhealthy. My strength in the lesson was my instruction. I gave children an clear
instruction. I knew that since they did the activities quickly and easily. Moreover, I praise children,
which reinforce them to participate.
Reflection 6: (English letter U)
I taught a lesson on Wednesday which was about the letter U. At the beginning, I greet the students
and sing the days of the week song as usual. This song considers as their routine at the beginning
of English class. I start to sing and all children start to sing with me and copy my movement. When
we finished, before the warm-up, I remind students about the letter that they took by showing them
pictures of it. Children tell me the name of the letters and the sound of it. It was very successful
because children were participating with me. Then, I start my lesson. I make for them the letter u
as a story. I showed children the story and ask them to discover the objects that start with letter u.
then, I illustrated them a real umbrella and ask them questions about it. I moved to my next activity
which is clapping hands activity. I designed a PowerPoint include the letters u and other different
letters. I asked them to clap their hands when I point on letter u while they have to freeze when I
point on the other letters. The thing that went well is that all children like the idea and engage with
my story. They wanted to participate by answering the name of the pictures. I was using praise
strategy a lot, which made children, listen to me and follow my rules. The reason why I praise
them a lot when they did something good is because what Skinner said. According to him, he
claimed that children will do a specific behavior if they get reinforcement and praise. Next time, I
will improve my teaching in giving instruction. I believe that this is a good experience in teaching
children because when I do mistakes, I learn and improve my teaching style.
