German Grading Guide for VGU Students

The German grading system used at VGU ranges from 1 to 5, with 1 being the highest grade and 4 the lowest passing grade. Below 4 is 5, which means "failed". Grades may include decimals like 1.3 or 1.7 to further differentiate performance. Some universities may use slight variations in scales, so grades like 1.2, 1.4, or 1.5 are possible. The grading scales are also mapped to the Vietnamese 10-point and 6-point scales for comparison purposes, with the relation between scores and grades determined independently by each examiner.

GERMAN GRADING SYSTEM

At VGU the German Grading System (GGS) is used for all study programs (except in the Foundation
Year):
-

According to GGS, the highest grade is 1, and the lowest passing grade is 4. The only grade

below 4 is 5 which means failed.

-

Depending on the partner universities your grades might slightly vary. To nuance the grade

most universities use the scale of .3 and .7. Hence, being marked between 1 and 2, turns out as 1.3
or 1.7. However, some universities might use different scales so grades such as 1.2, 1.4, 1.5 are
also possible.
