NHS Legal Costs for Employment Tribunals

The Department of Health does not hold data on NHS spending for legal costs related to Employment Tribunals broken down by year as requested. The Department collects overall legal fees data but not in a way that identifies amounts for Employment Tribunals. If dissatisfied with the response, the requester can ask for an internal review within two months or apply to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Dear Mr Alexander,
Thank you for your request of 4th March 2016 under the Freedom of
Information Act (2000). Your exact request was:
NHS spending on legal costs related to Employment Tribunals
1). Please advise if the Department of Health holds data on NHS
spending on total legal costs related to Employment Tribunals.
2). If so, please disclose the total NHS spend on legal services
on all ET cases for years 2013/2014 and 2014/2015.
3). If the Department of Health holds data on legal costs for only
some cases, please disclose the number of cases and the total
NHS spend on legal services in these cases for years 2013/2014
and 2014/2015.

The Department does not hold the information you have requested. The
Department collects data from the NHS on overall expenditure on Legal Fees,
but as it is not broken down by the specific purpose of the expenditure we are
unable to identify amounts relating to Employment Tribunals.
