Rev. Jesse Jackson on Ralph Abernathy III's Passing

Rev. Jesse Jackson expressed his condolences on the passing of Ralph Abernathy III, the son of a prominent civil rights leader. Abernathy III passed away from cancer at the age of 57 after privately battling the disease. Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. Statement on the passing of Atlanta native son
and former Georgia State Senator Rev. Ralph Abernathy III

Dakhla, Morocco---March 18, 2016--- My heart broke when news reached me in

Africa today that Ralph David Abernathy III has passed away from cancer two
days shy of his 57th birthday. I worked for years with his iconic father, the coarchitect with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. of the civil rights movement. I have
known Ralph III since he was a little boy and I want to express my profound
condolences to his family and friends.
Ralph was born into the struggle to parents Ralph and Juanita Abernathy who
risked everything to change America. A former Georgia state senator, Ralph III
used his voice in his own way to fight for racial and social justice. Like his father,
Ralph III was a proud, brave man. He kept his battle with colon cancer private until
near the end. We have lost a freedom fighter. He will be greatly missed.
