Evaluation Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Who would distribute our film and why?
As this is the first movie we have made and we are new directors, we are
therefore unheard of and of a low status in the film industry. This then makes it
difficult for us to find a distributer for our product and limits us to how we can
show our film to the public audience. Our film is an Art house Individual Film
because we are not supported by a mainstream company. Due to our production
being an unknown individual company, our film is more likely to be distributed by a
distributor who specialise in bringing small company films to the public eye, for
example : Fox Searchlight for indie films.
Our film offers opportunities for merchandise, for example: Posters, T-shirts and
belts displaying the Visual-Eyes logo. Our film also offers the opportunity for a
sequel that could be distributed to even more cinemas than the first film because
we would then be a known production company.
Our film is very similar to the popular Saw(2004) film which after the successful
release and large fan base led to the production of sequels.
How could our film be distributed?
• As we are unknown, this would affect the number of cinemas who will exhibit our
film. Therefore, we would have to advertise our film over the internet and make it
possible for the audience to download our film. To advertise our film to a large
audience we would have to consider distributing it over social networking sites
such as Facebook and Myspace to attract fans. We could add previews and trailers
to these websites to attract the audience and persuade them to see the film. We
could also put the film on Itunes so that our audience can download it and watch it
in the comfort of their own homes.
