Observation Task 3: Mapping Environments:

The Learning
Environment
Focus: The learning environment.
Objective:
For student teachers to map the learning environment that exists in
the classroom including the layout of the seated area and learning
centres.

Make a sketch of the classroom and identify the


function of each area.

Procedure:
Draw a map of the learning environment within the classroom and
list the functions of each of the activity areas. If possible take
photographs of the classroom including displays on the wall.

Examples:
Area
Water area
Library

Circle area

Function
Washing art equipment/organizing art
activities
They learn how to read. They can improve
their skills. They can improve their language
either English or Arabic.
Teachers give their students to learn their
studies. Sometimes she get stories. She let the

students to sing a song with her. Like alphabet


songs or numbers song. She let them to make
some activities in the floor.
Art area
Children can express their feelings. They can
give their all their creativity out. Maybe art
area can be one of the childs hobby. Because
art needs to imagine.
Drama area.
It can develop language and communication
skills , drama develops creativity, it assists
physical development, it can builds childrens
confidence.
Eating area.
Children after their 30 minutes of break they
have 15 minutes of eating, they can have their
energy, they have to learn the etiquette. How
to eat?

After the observation

Think about why the classroom layout is organized as it is. Ask


your MST why the desk/tables are arranged as they are and
the function of each area of the classroom.

It can be safe for children.

Children can be safe from injury


They can be motivated and relaxed while being taught
They will be more flexible.
