Design Basis

This document summarizes codes and design loads for structural analysis and design. It references codes for dead and live loads (ADIBC-2013, ASCE-07-05, ADIBC-2012), seismic loads (ADIBC, IBC-2012), and structural concrete and steel design (ACI-318-2005, AISC-360-05-LRFD). Design loads include dead, live, wind and seismic loads. Dead load comprises the permanent weight of walls, floors, roofs, partitions and fixed equipment.

The materials used for construction shall be strictly as per the relevant technical specifications and as per the relevant
Codes & specifications

5. Design Loads
5.1

General

Structures shall be designed to have sufficient structural capacity and integrity to resist safelyand effectively that all loads
and effects of load combinations that may reasonably be expected. The design loads used for the structures, buildings
and foundations shall conformed to the requirements of the governing codes and specifications. All the equipment
loads are given from TKII is strictly followed. The assumed loads are also approved from TKII and are adhered with all
the corresponding calculation and drawings. Minimum design loads shall include dead load, live load, wind load and
seismic load. Where applicable, the design loads shall also include thermal load, anchor loads, hydro test load,
impact load and surcharge load.
The units to be used for design and drawings are SI units. All the loads are in KN and dimensions are in Meter.

6. Dead load (DL)

Dead load comprises of the weight of all permanent construction including walls, floors, roofs, partitions,
stairways, fixed services and other equipments excluding their content. Dead loads shall consist of total loads due to
the structure (framing, walls, roofing etc.), equipment, piping, insulation, refractory, overburden soil, and other load
permanently supported by the structure. If in-situ hydro test is planned, the dead load shall include water filledvessels
