Mohr's circle is used to determine the principal stresses and maximum shear stress on an inclined plane for a given biaxial stress condition. It graphically illustrates the relationship between the normal and shear stresses on the inclined plane by using a circle to relate the principal and inclined plane stresses. The resulting stresses on the inclined plane are determined by drawing lines from the center of the circle to intersect the circle, with the intersection points giving the normal and shear stresses.
