Create A Shoebox Tomb Project

The document provides guidelines for a project to create a model Egyptian tomb inside a shoebox. Students are instructed to make a mummy, coffin, and sarcophagus out of paper or other materials. They should also draw hieroglyphics and pictures on the tomb walls and include at least five items representing treasures for the afterlife. A one-page typed or 1.5 page handwritten report is required describing the person in the tomb and explaining the Egyptian mummification process with cited evidence. Websites are provided for research. A rubric at the bottom outlines criteria for grading the project.

Create a Shoebox Tomb

(Standards: 6.2.3 & 6.2.5/whst 6.2)

Project Guidelines

Ancient Egyptian pharaohs and noblemen were buried in elaborate tombs in order to
prepare them for the afterlife. Research the Egyptian mummification process using my
weebly with guided websites, and/or other resources from the library. Use what you learn to
construct a model of an Egyptian tomb. This project must be made inside a box (NOTHING
BIGGER THAN A SHOEBOX).

What Youll Need to Include:

Make a mummy and place it inside a coffin and sarcophagus. The
sarcophagus and coffin should be painted/colored or constructed to
look realistic. The outside of the shoebox should be covered with
paper or colored. It may look like stone or other suitable material.
Include wall paintings by drawing hieroglyphics and pictures on the
walls of your tomb to represent the mummys life. Consider
measuring the paper to fit the sides of the box and gluing it in after
the paintings are done.
Make items to represent the treasures that your mummy will need
in the afterlife (Example: food, furniture, etc.). You must include at
least 5 items.
All reports should be neatly written in pencil or ink (black or blue).
Typed papers should be at least 1 page and double-spaced.
Handwritten reports should be 1 pages and single space.
o Write a story about the person whose mummy is inside.
Give your person an Egyptian name
Explain their role in life- job, position, family, etc.
o Describe how and why people were mummified.
Use evidence from your research to support the
description.
Cite your evidence (where did your evidence come from)
