Introduction
Some people say that, Teaching is a work of heart, and I could not agree more. I cannot think of
any better way to make a difference in someones life than to become a teacher. I am Jasmine Lovelace
and teaching is my passion. I am currently a senior at James Madison University looking to pursue my
Masters in Education. I have a dream of becoming Teacher of the Year and one day getting my
Masters in Administration so that I may become a principal. My concentration is in Science and
Humanities and Social Science and I cannot wait to apply what I learn in my future classroom.
Educational Experience
The summer of 2014, I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad on the island Malta in the
Mediterranean sea. In 2015 I went to Ireland to teach in a small rural school. While in both Malta and
Ireland, I learned how to implement different learning styles for children who have diverse cultural
backgrounds. I am currently volunteering with the Career Development Academy and am helping
students with their English as well as other homework. For the past year I have been teaching Sunday
School at Calvary Crosslink to the pre-k age group. Through these experiences I have seen that every
child learns differently and as a teacher it is important to make sure that every child can learn to their
fullest potential. Through these experiences I have also learned about how important it is to have a
personal connection with each child so that you can personally celebrate each childs successes.
Teaching Philosophy
My definition for education is learning something new every day, whether it be through experiences or
in a classroom setting. My teaching philosophy is providing experiences for my students that will help
them broaden their horizon. Children are not empty glasses to be filled but they are full glasses to be
shared. I believe that all students have the ability to teach me something new every day. My job as a
teacher is to instill knowledge in each student by providing them with the opportunity to learn
kinesthetically. I believe field trips are important for students because it opens the door to learning.
When I present a topic and teach a lesson or unit on a subject, I then want to follow that up with a hand
on learning activity so that the students may fully understand the topic. You can teach a student about a
river and the wildlife that surrounds it, but unless a child experiences it, it makes it harder for students
to make sense of it.
