Grading:

Grading will be based on the following schemes:


Scheme 1:
10% Homework
55% Quizzes
35% Final

Scheme 2:
10% Homework
35% Quizzes
55% Final

The grade received will be the higher calculated from the two schemes. Lowest quiz and
homework grades will be dropped. All late assignments will receive a 50% markdown for
the first week after it is due. No credit will be given after one week. No make-up quizzes
and exams except for documented medical or family emergencies.

Create simple, stable arrangements of points, lines, planes and solids.


Apply the equations of equilibrium in two and three dimensions.
Develop free-body diagrams.
Determine the center of gravity of lines, planes and solids.
Create stable trusses.
Find member forces in planar trusses and simple space trusses.
Trace loads through triangulated structures.
Understand concept of uniaxial stress and strain and the relation between stress and strain (Hookes law).
Combine concepts of stress, strain and Hookes law to find the axial deformation of a member
