Reflect on how you thought about Psychology before you took this course and
how you think about it now that the course is over. Have any of your assumptions or
understandings changed? Why? What assignments/activities/readings were
influential in this process? How will you approach Psychology differently in the
future?
Before I had took this class I did not really know much about
psychology, and just thought it was kind of weird that human functions
were a science. At first this class was difficult but after a while this
became a lot easier and more enjoyable to learn about theories such as
how someones environment influences their personality traits, learning
about gender schema. It was very interesting to seeing the political terms
for roles and ideals that have been set by other generations.
But my favorite part of this class had to have been the reaction of
drugs on the brain and mental disorders, it was interesting to see how
those with drug addiction or those with a mental disorder react or think
because of a chemical dependency or a chemical withdrawal or an
overdose. It helped me understand why those people may act a certain
way or be unable to function in society normally. But also it was
interesting learning about treatments and reading about how they are
treated.
Now that the course is over, I would like to learn more about
psychology, and I now think that psychology does have its own
contributions that affect us and explain other things that we may have
not figured out any other way. So I am excited to take another psychology
class and see if it will fully convince me to change my major.
