young folks by guiding them through wilderness experiences. Adequate experience with teaching
young folks (ages 12-14) basic wilderness skills. Good time management and motivational skills.
Positive mentality for immersing oneself in wilderness experiences and the effort that is needed to be
fully involved in the experience. Believes in creating a safe and supportive environment for folks to
thrive in wilderness settings. Good team leader and team member. Has an openness with dialogue
that encourages openness and honesty throughout the group. Excellent interpersonal skills and is
able to communicate effectively with co-workers from all levels and varying perspectives.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrated basic climbing safety: how to put on a harness, (double-backing, and what that looks
like), how to fit a helmet well, how to tie in correctly (and what a dressed knot looks like)
Provided instruction for students to learn how to belay and climb well
Demonstrated correct communication between the climber and the belayer
Created a lesson plan for how to build a traditional anchor using natural features and gear
Encouraged a student to rappel down a wall using the munter mule hitch system as a assisted belay/
rappel
Conducted a lesson about a Sense of Place curriculum with activities and discussions to prompt and
engage students (students were asked to walk around a group of trees in which questions were
posted on each tree, then wrote responses to these questions silently)
Supervised and prompted students in a public school setting, encouraged their efforts while creating
projects about a watershed
Ongoing:
Will learn how to facilitate activities for young folks in Ropes Course Facilitation.
Will learn introductory communicative skills for how to counsel students in Counseling Skills
Search & Rescue techniques in climbing/high angle/cave scenarios as a four week intensive study.
