ast Friday Unite reps


from across London bus
garages gathered to talk
about developments in the fight
to win justice for London bus
drivers.
At the meeting reps were told
that after months of the employers
refusing to talk there will now be
a joint meeting on 9 April with
Transport for London (TfL) bosses,
the bus operators and the union.
According to the latest news from
Unite the big players have agreed
to attend the meeting.
Any such meeting is a result
of the hard work put in by the
union, activists in the garages and
most importantly the effect of the
two solid strikes that bus drivers
delivered and the threat of more
action to come.
Of course if the 9 April meeting
sees the employers and TfL prepared
to start the process of addressing
the injustices that exist on Londons
buses thats a big step forward.

Lobby

One thing that Unite could do


would be to call on drivers to lobby
the talks to show their strength of
feeling to the bosses over these
issues.
The fact that there could be
hundreds of different rates for
the job across the capital and that
new starter rates and a two tier pay
structure are now a fact of life has
been highlighted by the campaign
to drive up pay and by the strike
action.
But its really important that if the
9 April meeting doesnt lead to some
real progress then the union calls

explain the issues of the campaign
to more drivers and to undermine
management lies about what the
union is fighting for.
The myth that senior drivers
would lose out if the campaign was
successful has been exposed.
