Health Care Industry in

India

In India, the Healthcare system is split into a public

sector, a private sector and a wide network of informal
healthcare providers operating together in a large and
unregulated network.
This irregularity has caused wide disparities in access,
especially in regional and rural distribution of healthcare
infrastructure.
Indias healthcare industry is currently worth Rs 73,000
crore which is roughly 4 percent of the GDP.

Services Provided
OPD (Allopathy & Homeopathy):
Dental facility:An experienced Dental surgeon provides
procedures like Dental Extractions, RCT, Scaling
/Cleaning, Fillings, Local curettage.
Ward/ Indoor
Minor OT
Physiotherapy
Laboratory services: ECG Services:24hours ECG
services including machine report, done by trained staff.
Pharmacy
Radiology/X-ray facility
Ambulance Services

Advantages
Integrated healthcare
These hospitals are at the Forefront of Medical
Tourism
Best technology and resources to deliver quality
services.
24*7 ambulance service
Expert Doctors, surgeons.

Disadvantages
Lack of quality resources(In India on every 1000 persons
there are 0.3 doctors and 0.8 nurses)
Medical equipments account for 40-45% of the total
expenditure in the hospitals. Constant investment is
required in new healthcare devices.
Unavailability of Medicines.
Poor Facilities for middle and lower income group
Shift in concentration (A large amount of revenue comes
from the foreign citizens who come to India for medical
treatment)

Recommendation

Super-speciality hospitals
In-house Medicine Facility
Tie up with Hotels for Accommodation
Health Plan packages can be provided by the hospital to
family and corporate with tie up with Insurance
companies
Hospitals can become integrated healthcare systems i.e.
when medicines, food services, laundry etc will become
"purchased" services. These third-party operations will
reduce cost and increase the profit margins
