Case Analysis Guidelines for Submission
A case study is a real life problem which is faced by an organization. It helps us in applying and transforming
the knowledge that we obtain in the class into a skill, i.e., decision making skills. Cases have to be analyzed by
imagining that you are the protagonist and how you would take decisions if you were in the organization in the
said position. Please keep in mind that your analysis should be based on the context in which the case is
written (for example, if the context is 1995 and a firm is not able to communicate with customers, you cannot
suggest bulk SMS as a solution, simply because it was not existing at that point in time in India). For the
purpose of written case submission, suggest that you follow the following methodology:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Situation Explain the situation that the firm is in. Ideally a half page report (in single
spacing) briefly explaining the situation that the company is in (for example, it may be a new
initiative launched by the company, which is not going down well with the customers). There may
be one or more situations. Situations are macro level issues that the firm is facing.
Competition Analysis In most cases, details about competition will be provided. Explain how
does the subject firm fares with respect to competition typically a SWOT analysis.
Problem Explain specific problems faced by the firm which has led to the current situation.
These are micro in nature and there may be many problems (ideally may be jotted down as bullet
points and may run to a page).
Analysis Address each of the problems and based on data given in the case, suggest
solutions. You could summarize the analysis by giving a macro level two to three action points for
the firm / protagonist.
