Smart Traffic Timer Automation

To ease traffic congestion in India, the project proposes an automated traffic timer that senses traffic density using pressure sensors embedded in roads. The sensors send data to a microcontroller which adjusts traffic signal timers based on algorithms analyzing current traffic levels. This allows traffic lights to adapt to morning rush hours with more buses and commuters.

Objective of Project: To ease the present traffic scenario prevalent in India

Problem Statement: Day to day increasing traffic congestion is


overburdening the existing traffic system of India. Fixed duration of traffic signals
irrespective of traffic density on the roads is unable to reduce road rush.

Proposed Solution: Automated timer which senses traffic density and


adjusts itself accordingly. We use a flat top pressure sensors embedded on the
roads which continuously senses the traffic density by showing change in its
resistance value and sends this change to the MCU through the analog channel.
The MCU processes the values using proper algorithms and adjusts the timer
accordingly.
For instance, in the morning hours there is huge rush of schoolbuses and office
goers
