Signals and Systems Assignment 3

1. The document discusses questions related to signals and systems, including properties of CTFS coefficients, determining the CTFT and inverse FT of various signals, and how changing parameters affects CTFS coefficients. 2. One question asks about CTFS coefficients of a signal and whether certain coefficients can be zero, then defines new coefficients by subtracting two terms and asks how this affects the fundamental period. 3. Another question involves determining the CTFT of a signal, using that to define a new function, and finding the corresponding time domain signal. 4. Additional questions involve finding the FT representations of periodic signals depicted in figures and determining the inverse FT of signals defined by equations. 5. The last question asks

Signals and Systems: 3rd assignment set

1. Let the CTFS coefficients of a signal x(t) with fundamental frequency o be X[k] )
Can X [1] and X[-1] be zero? Give reasons Let X[m] be not zero for m an even
number and zero for m an odd number other than 1. If a new set of new CTFS
coefficients Y[k] are now defined from X[k] by Y[k] = X [k] (X[1] + X[-1]), what will
be the fundamental period of y(t), the time domain signal corresponding to the new set
of CTFS coefficients Y[k]
2. Determine the CTFT X(j) of x(t) = 2sinc(t/2). If we now define a new function Y(ej)
as Y (e j )

X ( j( i 2 )) with X(j) the same as the X(j) calculated earlier,

determine y[n].
3. Find the FT representations of the following periodic signals:

4. Determine the inverse Fourier transform of the following

2 j 1
j
a) X ( j )
b) X ( j )

5. Given CTFS of a signal x(t) (of fundamental period o) as X[k] = -k2-|k|, determine the
CTFS of x(2t) and dx(t)/dt.
