Plane mirrors form images of the same size as the object at the same distance from the mirror. Convex mirrors, such as those used as rearview mirrors in vehicles, form smaller upright images. Concave mirrors are used in medical search lights and can form enlarged or diminished inverted images depending on the position of the object relative to the focal point of the mirror.
