ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL
Let the mother F$%^&* beat drop! was when 150,000 waltz of base struck my ear and
made my body jump up and down in a disorderly manner. Hoping my eardrum wouldnt
explode, my heart skipped a beat.
It was March 28, 2013 and somehow I manage to sneak into Ultra Music Festivals
15
th
annual appearance in downtown Miami. There was a huge stage in front of me with
a movie theater screen behind it. A tall blonde man was behind the stage moving his
fingers and hands around some kind of electronic device placed on top of the stage.
Behind him the screen had his name moving in 3-D spelling, Nicky Romero. Thousands
of people were gathered in front of him, all of them either dancing, raging, jumping, or
screaming. At some point I manage to catch my breath from all the jumping. During this
time my best friend Alex and I had just caught each other by the eye, and immediately
had the same look on our faces. All I could see around me were tens of thousands
excited, occupied, lost, amazed, amused and energetic people dancing with the music.
There was this unknown energy flowing throughout the environment. The music was
pounding in my ears, making me jump! To my right there was a beautiful blonde girl
wearing a blue crop top and red spandex shorts. Her friend was wearing a flower crown
with multi color bracelets up to her elbows. It was fascinating. People were trading
bracelets all around me, asking me to trade my candy as one of the many ravers I
encountered that day said to me.
I finally managed to find Alex again after I regain my consciousness from this black out I
just experienced. Alex and I started walking around. There were so many people in the
way it was hard to keep track of where we were. Everywhere I passed, people were just
smiling. There were couples kissing and hugging all around. We managed to find a some
of my close friends, who had been here before, to help guide us into the jungle of people.
My first thought was how in the hell are we getting through a crowd of fifty-thousand
people in order to get in front of the stage.
Holding hands between my girl and her friend, we had to push, shove, and even scream
in order to move forward. People were rushing to get in front of me. My girlfriend had to
be aggressive to one girl who was wearing nipple piercing and a thong because she kept
shoving her. I grabbed my girls arm and pushed through hundreds of people. After what
seemed like thirty minutes of crowd related struggles, two huge grey bars stopped us.
Beats were dropping. People around me were jumping as if they were reaching for an
item in the air that just keeps getting higher. My girl was grinding in front of me. I held
on the bar in order not to loose my balance. My best friend was adjacent to me with
some girl, wearing a tank top and a thong jumping like a maniac. He had the biggest
smile on his face. Adrenaline shot up my spine like a serpent attacking its prey. Sweat
was dripping from my forehead all the way down to my shoes. My arms were getting
sore from all the up-ward arm movement. I could feel my girls butt grinding on my shorts
giving me a relaxed feeling. Her hands were rubbing the back of my hair. Another beat
dropped. The crowd started screaming and I had the biggest smile.
Night started to settle across the beautiful city. Just when I though the festival could not
get any better, it did. The stage I was in front of had thousands of light bulbs, light
machines, and laser beams. All this combined into a magnificent light show that was in
sync with every song played. Chills went up and down my spine. Even when I closed my
eyes the lights would shine colorful patterns through my lids. It was like I couldnt escape
this warm feeling in my body. A very beautiful song started playing, it was called
Remedy by Hardwell, and it was the first romantic song that I had heard all night. The
song fit the mood perfectly,

Just one day...
Just one day...
Just one day...
Just one day in the life
So I can understand
Fighting just to survive
But you taught me I can
We are the lucky ones
We are, we are
Oh we are the lucky ones
We are, we are
[Beat drop]
My girl turned around and started kissing me with such passion, it was amazing. At that
point, I realized why these types of festivals were so popular. From all over the world
people come together to lose themselves in the music as it course through their bodies,
giving off an overwhelming happiness that comes with being a part of a huge raving
entity. I was hooked instantly.
SUNSET MUSIC FESTIVAl
Beep! Beep! Beep! the sound of my horn apparently wasn't loud enough for my friend
Alex to hear. Sitting in the car, I called him 3 times in a row. I hear a knock in my
window, and see a white, 511 kid with a blue tank top and cargos standing next to my
door. I was too excited to be mad at him for his lateness. The day finally came. Our road
trip to Tampa was here. He entered my car and I pressed the gas pedal. As we were
driving down his street, I saw a flock of birds flying parallel to my car. In my mind I
hoped that was a good sign. Finally I made a left turn and was looking at a forty story
high building. My girlfriend was standing in front of the lobby with two of her friends
giving me the same face she always does. I was late. She looked so pretty wearing her
green bootie shorts, with a purple crop top. She gave me a kiss and sat in the back of my
car with her friends. We made it to the high way and started to get comfortable for the
four hour drive ahead of us. Throughout our journey, Alex and I were discussing which
DJs to see.
First we need to see Nicky Romero at 3:00 p.m. said Alex.
No! Nicky Romero is at 4:00 you duck I said. what we need to do is start with W&W
in the Mid-Stage and then go to Nicky Romero
Fine, I honestly don't even know the schedule Alex said. If it was up to me, I would
set up all my favorite DJs in the same stage so I wouldnt have to go deal with those long
ass crowds
I laughed at his joke, put the music back on and let our journey conclude.
Were Here! screamed my girlfriend and her friends almost simultaneously. I made a
left turn in Washington Avenue and there it was. A huge stadium in the middle of the
grass filled with thousands of people walking around. They were dressed in tank tops,
bootie shorts, colorful outfits, furry pants, crop tops and much more. We found a parking
spot about hundred yards from the entrance. It felt so good to stretch my arms and legs. I
cracked my back and shook out my legs before getting my camel back and flasks. The
day was beautiful. There were some clouds in the sky that blocked the brightness of the
sun. I grabbed my girlfriends hand and started walking towards the entrance. On our way
to the entrance a couple started making conversation with us. The girl was asking my
girlfriend how she did her make up because she thought it was beautiful. I let them have
their conversation while I was talking to her boyfriend about which Djs he wanted to see
first. We get to the entrance, scanned our tickets, and away we went inside.
What a sight! Thousands of people all around me dancing, jumping, smiling, grinding,
and even helping each other out. A lot of girls must really liked my girls make up
because every where we walked one girl would always compliment her on it. We got
hold of Alex, bought some water bottles, and decided to start the mosh pit. Holding
everyones hands I lead the group towards the front of this sixty foot high stage. Pushing,
grabbing, stumbling and even falling down a couple times, we finally made it. The stage
was painted blue and had around ten thousand lightbulbs on it. The Dj stage was round,
with all the electronic devices surrounding the Dj in the middle, like a donut. The Dj was
jumping, putting his hands in the air and just having as much fun as all of us in the
crowd. Beats and drops kept dropping, making me jump around and stumbling all over
the place. My girlfriend was jumping around, taking pictures with her friends looking so
happy. I looked around the crowd, all excited and amused, around me. I couldnt help but
smile. Chills were running up and down my spine as the drops kept hitting my ear drums.
I grabbed my girl, kissed her and enjoyed the festival.
