Riverside Police to Host DUI/DUI Drugs Refresher Training
Riverside Hosting Multi-Agency Training at No Cost to Enhance Shared Training
Among Police Agencies
The Riverside Police Department will be hosting a refresher course for police
officers in the western suburbs to identify and arrest impaired drivers. The 8-hour
course will be held on three separate days to accommodate a larger number of
officers. Members of the Brookfield, McCook, North Riverside and Stickney Police
Departments will join members of the Riverside Police Department to refine their
knowledge of successfully removing drivers under the influence from the road.
In 2012, 335 people were killed at the hands of an impaired driver in the State of
Illinois. This course will assist our officers, as well as those of our neighboring
communities, to recognize those drivers and take the necessary steps to build a
successful case for prosecution. In addition, the topics of drug-impaired driving
and recent case law will be covered so officers have a better understanding when
confronted with those issues, said Officer Brian Greenenwald, a standardized
field sobriety test instructor, who will teach the course during the last week of
September.
Officer Brian Greenenwald is one of only 65 Drug Recognition Expert (DRE)
Officers in the State of Illinois.
