Measuring Power in 1-Phase AC Circuit

1. The objective of this experiment is to measure the active and reactive power in a 1-phase AC circuit. 2. Active power, also called true power or real power, is the power actually consumed or utilized in an AC circuit and equals voltage times current in phase with voltage (VIcosφ). Reactive power equals voltage times current 90 degrees out of phase with voltage (VIsinφ) and does not do any useful work in the circuit. 3. The experiment involves connecting instruments like a voltmeter, ammeter, and wattmeter to a circuit with a variable autotransformer power supply. Readings are taken at different voltages to calculate power factor and active and reactive power.
