Holidays and traditions

January 1 to 6: Diablada de Pllaro in the province of Tungurahua.
January 6: Epiphany, celebrated with masses of children, carols, processions, fireworks and
town bands.
February (Carnival) Carnival Celebration throughout Ecuador. Precedes Lent and therefore
depends on the date of Easter.
February 27: The Battle of 1829 is recalled Tarqui This battle is remembered as the culmination
of the war between Peru and Gran Colombia.
May 1: Run in the main cities of the country by the International Labour Day.
May 24: National Day commemorating the Battle of Pichincha 1822.
June 25, 1824 cantonizacin of Machala, The show is done International industrial port of
Machala as well as concerts, dances, parades, exhibitions and parades in general carried out.
July 19 to 27: In Salinas (Guayas) can enjoy the maritime procession in honor of Christ
Fisherman decorated boats parade, marching bands, hymns, etc.
August 10: Celebration throughout Ecuador for the "First Cry of Independence"
September 20 to 26: Ecuador celebrates the International Fair of Banana.
October 9: Holiday Independence of Guayaquil. The show is done International industrial port
of Guayaquil as well as concerts, dances, parades, exhibitions and parades in general carried
out.
November 2: Throughout Ecuador marks the day of the dead with flowers laying ceremonies at
cemeteries.
November 3: Holiday Independence of Cuenca.
December 24: All Ecuador celebrate Christmas. The streets and churches show special
decoration with manger scenes, lighting, ornaments, etc.
December 31: "Old Year" or end of the year is celebrated. Typical activities are the date
manufacture of puppets.
