Gout Management & Hygiene Guide

Gout is caused by increased uric acid in the body that can accumulate and cause pain, swelling and inflammation in joints like the big toe, ankle and knee. It occurs when there is increased production of uric acid or reduced excretion of it in urine and intestines. Medications like allopurinal, probenecid and benzbromarone can be used to treat gout by either reducing uric acid production or increasing its excretion, though they may cause side effects like rashes, diarrhea or similar symptoms.
