Ceres: Goddess of Harvest and Perseverance

Ceres is invoked as the bountiful goddess of the harvest who turns the wheel of the seasons and holds ancient mysteries. The passage honors Ceres and invokes her guidance for the sacred rite. It describes how Ceres combed the earth in search of her daughter Persephone after she was taken by Hades, asking everyone from beggars to kings to farmers and gods if they had seen her radiant child. In her desperation to find her daughter, Ceres let the earth grow barren, continuing her search though it meant neglecting her duties as a goddess. This harvest, Ceres brings the gift of perseverance, so that we never quit looking for our heart's desire.
