5E Inquiry-Based Learning Model

Engage: Captures the student’s interest with informed questions.

– Create interest, generate curiosity, raise questions,


uncover prior knowledge

Explore: Tests predictions and hypothesis. Provides the springboard


for further
investigations.
– Students work together, make observations, perform
investigations, and draw conclusions.

Explain: Connects the student’s investigation to scientific


explanations of the content.
– Students describe, record and reflect about their
observations.

Elaborate: Provides further inquiry into the practice of a skill and


application of this
new knowledge.
– Students apply concepts and skills to new situations.

Evaluate: Reviews learning by beginning at knowledge level and


spirals into
analysis, synthesis ,and evaluation.
– Provides feedback to the students on their
understanding of the concept.
