Basic Refrigeration Cycle

The basic refrigeration cycle involves a compressor compressing a refrigerant vapor to a high pressure and temperature state, the refrigerant then condenses in a condenser to a high pressure liquid state, the liquid refrigerant passes through an expansion valve where it undergoes an abrupt reduction in pressure and temperature and evaporates in the evaporator absorbing heat from the surroundings, the low pressure vapor is then returned to the compressor to repeat the cycle. A pressure-enthalpy diagram graphically depicts the thermodynamic states and processes of the refrigeration cycle including the sub-cooled liquid zone, superheated vapor zone, evaporation, saturated liquid and vapor curves, and the liquid-vapor zone.
