sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they 28 follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10:27-28 This speaks of Jesus power to protect his followers from others. It doesnt say the followers cant stop following. They must always guard their hearts and maintain their faith. Passages dealing with those who abandon the faith:

! Holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, 20 among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme. 1 Tim. 1:19
19

Note: Handing over to Satan occurs during church discipline, when Christians withdraw their association from other Christians who are unwilling to repent. Compare 1 Cor. 5 (esp. v. 5).

By 2 Tim. 2:17-18, Hymenaeus had swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. His talk was capable of spreading like gangrene, and was upsetting the faith of some.
