Lactulose is a 30 cc dosage drug used to treat constipation by reducing colonic pH through bacterial metabolism, softening stool and increasing peristalsis. It works by not being absorbed and drawing water into stool through osmotic effect. Abdominal Do not administer if patient has already discomfort pass out stool especially if stool is liquid associated w/ flatulence or cramps. Prolonged use or large doses may result in diarrhea w/ excessive loss of water & electrolytes
