HERITAGE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
Information Technology 4th year project SYNOPSIS
PROJECT TITLE : BRAIN TUMOUR IMAGE ANALYSYS AND DETECTION
MENTOR : Prof Rituparna Sinha
TEAM
: The team strength is of 2 students as follows:Sohinee Ghoshal (Roll-075465) Nilanjana Sanyal (Roll-075452)
PROJECT OBJECTIVE : To study and implement the various edge detection algorithms used to detect the presence of any tumor in human brain. Then we will perform a comparative study on the performance of these algorithms. Then we would do further analysis and try to improve the performance of these existing algorithms.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION : CANCER is probably a word that inculcates fear in mind in the first go itself. Though various medical institutes and agencies now claim of providing absolute normal and pain-free life to cancer patients (also promising their survival beyond expected), majority of deaths in our country (and also abroad), is due to this deadly CANCER. Among cancer patients, most suffer due to late diagnosis of the ailment, leading them to step into the later & critical stages. An early diagnosis may help eradicate the monster. Cancer as a research topic is a very vast field encompassing within it various kinds and detailed categories of cancer. Though no single type can be said to be the most prevalent or most challenging one to be researched, we decided to work upon cancer caused due to brain tumors, wherein we will be trying to develop better algorithms to detect presence of any tumor in the brain from the MRI images taken. Thereafter we plan to focus upon ways to implement the above developed algorithms for the betterment of humankind in future. Hardware and Software Requirements: The programming language used is matlab on Windows platform Project Scope:
Though we are working upon only a specific type of cancer we believe this may make ways for facing the other possible categories of cancer also. This may also lead to a dynamic revolution in the field of fighting cancer and may bring about ease in further research works on cancer.
