HISTORY
Built more than 1800 years ago. The name Pantheon refers to the building's original function as a temple for all the gods. Built during the reign of hadrian probably AD 123 on the site of three celled tuscan temple the portico
PLAN
Circular in plan with 44m in diameter.
Colonnaded portico in the front of temple.
The octa-style portico is 33.5m wide and 18m deep in the centre.
The monolithic granite columns are of corinthian order. It is unfluted and 1.5m in diameter and 14m high. The columns support the entablature 3.35m high.
Attraction The pediment of entablature containing once the bronze relief representing a gigantomachy or battle of the Titans and other deities. Behind the portico the large statues of Augustus and Agrippa is there. Two monolithic marble columns of corinthian order.
it is 10.6m high in the side exedrae except that opposite the entrance. The columns are partly reeded at bottom and partly fluted at top.
Structure It is an outstanding example of romans skilful construction. The hemi-spherical dome consists of coffers in five ranges.
It is not only provide for ornamentation but also help in reducing its heavy weight.
A circular unglazed opening of 8.23m in dia. At the top of dome.
For lighting of the building.
The dome is three tires high.
Bottom is consists of travertine and tufa stone. The second tier of tufa and bricks. And the top tier of tufa and pumic stone 1.22m thick.
Material White
pentelic marble colonnades. Bronze doors. Doors plated with gold. Tympana containing bronze reliefs. Coffers covered inside the dome of temple. The pantheon has gone many changes both temporal and spiritual. But it is still used for services of religion
