Title: Kinder, Gentler People

Description: As physicians, we can save the planet by improving mental health and function. There are
many ways in which sleep health impacts mental health, both adversely and positively. In this
presentation learn the ways in which healthy sleep improves mood, cognitive performance, and therefore
interpersonal relationships.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn the ways in which sleep affects mood.
2. Learn how sleep disorders and insufficient sleep impair cognitive ability.
3. Learn the different mental symptom constellations of various sleep disorders.
4. Learn how to screen for sleep disorders, and appropriate treatments.

Biography: Dr. Catherine Darley combines her knowledge of sleep disorders with her training as a
naturopathic physician to bridge these two fields. As a naturopath her expertise lies in providing natural
and effective treatments for sleep problems. She is a graduate of Bastyr University and has received
extensive continuing education in the field of sleep medicine.

In 2003 she founded The Institute of Naturopathic Sleep Medicine which is dedicated to patient care,
public education about sleep health, and research on natural treatments for sleep disorders. At The
Institute of Naturopathic Sleep Medicine she provides treatment for a range of sleep disorders, including
insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, and insufficient sleep. Dr. Darley works with people of all ages,
and particularly enjoys working with children and their families. Dr. Darley is a professional speaker,
promoting sleep health education and awareness for both health professionals and the public.
