6th Grade November Newsletter Updates

The 6th grade students are working hard and making progress in their classes. They are studying fractions in math, ancient civilizations in social studies, and human rights through their first book club in reading and writing workshops. Parents are reminded to send in pictures for the yearbook, dress children appropriately for the cold weather, and donate any spare decks of playing cards.

6th Grade News

Good News: November was a great month. Students are all working hard. They will be Junior High ready in no time! Reading and Writing Workshops: Most of us are in the middle of our first book club. The theme is human rights. We are learning how to dig deeper into our understandings and we are fine-tuning our conversation skills. We have been taking a close look at our writing in the different subjects areas. We are making sure that our writing is clear, uses precise vocabulary and fulfills the task at hand. Math: We began the second unit from our new Go Math! Series. The unit centers around fractions, but it will surely be a step up from what we covered in September. Students will need to apply their knowledge to the new lessons that will be presented. Social Studies: We are studying ancient civilizations that developed in the Fertile Crescent. Our main emphasis has been on answering the following essential question: What impact do physical features have on the people that live in a certain location? We are also studying the creation of writing and a system of government.
