Braintree Man Arrested for House Break
Police arrested a nineteen year old Braintree man on Wednesday morning, October 24th shortly before noon after a Liberty Street homeowner reported to police that a man dressed in black and wearing a backpack rang his doorbell and stated that he needed a cab. The man then left and went to another Liberty Street home, raising the suspicions of the homeowner. Responding officers were initially unable to locate the man, but Officer Jamie Mosesso remained in the area and later observed a man dressed in black and wearing a backpack walk out of the driveway of a nearby Liberty Street home. As Officer Mosesso approached the man to question him, he ran off. Officer Mosesso gave chase as the man continued running behind homes on Liberty Street and Lisle Street and ultimately apprehended him in the backyard of a Sun Valley Drive home. Along the way, the man dropped his backpack, but officers retracing his steps later located the backpack in the backyard of a Liberty Street home. The backpack was searched and found to contain a laptop computer and numerous pieces of jewelry, later identified as the property of a Liberty Street homeowner whose home had been broken into. A search yielded additional jewelry and an iPod in the mans pockets that were also taken in the housebreak. The man was placed under arrest and charged with breaking and entering, malicious destruction of property, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. Officers returned to the Liberty Street home where Officer Mosesso first observed the man and discovered that the rear sliding door had been smashed. The homeowner was contacted, returned home and identified the jewelry, iPod and laptop as hers. This is exactly the type of police/community partnership that is so critical to addressing crime in our neighborhoods, stated Chief Russell Jenkins. If you see suspicious behavior, be a good neighbor and call the police.
