Upsi Deut Hosts Guests

The actives of Theta Delta Chi hosted charge consultant Patrick Marcantuono from October 2nd until October 4th this semester. Marcantuono appeared pleased with the cleanliness of the house, as well as with the emphasis on grades and philanthropy that have driven this academic year. Marcantuono provided advice and suggestions that will prove helpful when applying for grants from Nationals. When Marcantuono arrived, the actives were busy cleaning and preparing the house for a faculty dinner to be held that night. As a guest at the faculty dinner, he was able to see how the actives and pledges of Upsilon Deuteron interact with their professors. Upsilon Deuteron welcomed nearly 25 faculty members, all of which were complementary of the sense of community in the house.

Philanthropy update
Saturday, September 15, 2012 was Wabash Day. Wabash day was established for members of Wabash College to get out into Crawfordsville and give a helping hand to the community. The brothers of Upsilon Deuteron were divided into two groups to help with the community service. The first group helped walk dogs and clean vehicles at the local human shelter, and the other group helped set up a haunted house at the Sportsmens Club of Crawfordsville. The brothers are looking to help the community further in the future months. We are looking forward to helping with the breast cancer walk on October 27th. Our philanthropic focus for this year is to help the community more, raise breast cancer awareness, and helping with Autism Speaks. Zach Boston, co-philanthropy chair.

Road Trip
During fall break, actives Sukup 15, Hodge 13 and Coutchie 15 joined Alumni Joel Bustamante, Kyle OKeefe and Jacob Surface to visit the brothers at Gamma Deuteron at the University of Michigan. The Brothers of Gamma Deuteron were hosting a celebration the re-dedication of their charge house. The Gamma Deuteron brothers, under the leadership of president Daniel Cady, have regained their rights to their charge house and can live in it for the first time in recent memory. In order to complete the necessary renovations on the house the brothers of Gamma Deuteron were seeking to raise 1.2 million dollars by October 14th. While at the University of Michigan, the Wabash College brothers were welcomed with open arms to the house.

Fall Athletics
Brother Corey Egler 15 and Pledge Bryce Killian 16 are members of the Wabash golf team whose autumn season finished with an October 14th-15th invitational at DePauw. Playing for Mac Petty, a well loved personality in the area, has allowed me to take away so much wisdom. Even I am unable to play in every match, Coach Petty always tries to get me involved; he even had Brent Harris recommend me for an internship with the NCAA. Golf is such a good sport to improve my mind set, Coach Petty really emphasizes clearing our minds before we shoot to help us stay calm. said Egler. Brother Bupp15 and pledge Brent Polling 16 are active members of the Wabash soccer team. The soccer team is undergoing a year of transition after hiring a new coaching staff and looks to improve its record in the coming years. Brother Dykstra 13 has joined the Wabash rugby team this year, and despite injuries, is enjoying the physical sport. This season he has broken a toe, and suffered a dislocated shoulder during his rugby play.

Happy Halloween

Pledge Michael Watson 16 is a member of the Wabash wrestling team. An accomplished high-school varsity wrestler, Watson hopes to continue his success at Wabash College. The wrestling team has their first meet November 3rd.

Wabash Academics Still Strong

Wabash College has once again been ranked as an elite college by independent rating bodies. In August, Wabash was featured in The Best 376 Colleges, a publication of The Princeton Review. Wabash received eight different rankings within the top twenty of the category including, "Best Athletic Facilities" (4th), "Most Accessible Professors" (12th), and "Great Financial Aid" (17th). Wabash was ranked the 53rd best liberal arts school in the nation by US News despite boasting the second-worst College Town as ranked by the Princeton Review.

IM Sports
Theta Delta Chi has had a disappointing IM season thus far. Unfortunately we were unable to secure a win, often playing with only six people. However, the house promises to succeed in Volleyball and hopes to improve on last years second-place finish. Brothers Coutchie 15 and Santa-Maria 13 worked hard over the summer to hone their volleyball skills. In addition, Pledge Wadlington 16 has played the game competitively during his years in highschool. Theta Delta Chi also looks to be competitive in wrestling. Pledge Redweik 16 having wrestled throughout high school, has continued wrestling tailored workouts during his freshman year and is excited to tackle any competition.
