Equipping students to impact the world for Christ Do Hard Things

September 24, 2012

Dear Parents, Thank you to all the parents for the wonderful turn out at Back to School day. A copy of the schedule and the other teacher introductions will be posted this week on the blog. Stories from the adventures of Brisky, Bubbles and Teddy should also be appearing this week. Please take time to look at the blog with your child. I would like comments signed by students with their first name and parents can sign as their childs mom or dad (for example, Davids mom.) Initials make it too confusing since I have no way to identify all the Ss. Thank you for your patience as we learn together. Language arts - We are grateful to Mrs. Wendy Marshall for coming in on Monday to share with us what real authors do. She will be working with the students on ideas for writing. In reading we will be adding some new strategies and talking about cause and effect. Mrs. Wordell will be doing reading assessments with each child individually. We will begin discussing the water cycle. The students will be learning poems and songs to share with the class and to practice presentation skills.

Bible - The Bible memory verse, Malachi 3:1, is due on Friday, September 28. We are continuing our look at the time between the Old Testament and New Testament. The test will be on Friday this week. Your child should be able to draw, write about or explain one important aspect about the Greeks, Romans, Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, and Zealots. Please see the syllabus that was sent home last week or the Bible resource page on the blog. Mathematics - We will be working on subtraction facts and strategies. Your child should continue to practice basic addition facts if he/she is getting less than 20 correct on the Mad Minute.

Important Dates
Monday Oct. 8 - Fall Break Friday, Oct. 19 - Thrift Shop - Noon dismissal Tuesday, Oct. 30 - Field Trip to National Science Museum

See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come, says the Lord Almighty. Malachi 3:1
