Melanie McFarland Salon.com An entertaining, mordantly funny show that’s also softhearted despite all the killings. Mitchell and Maxwell Martin have tremendous chemistry, as do Mitchell and Ola. The whole cast clicks. Mar 27, 2025 Full Review David Bianculli NPR Created and written by Mark Brotherhood, it arrives with one of the most original and captivating variations on the entire TV mystery genre. Mar 27, 2025 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “Ludwing” never loses its pip nor its charm and a large reason why it works rests on Mitchell’s tensed-up shoulders and the show’s creators. Rated: 3.5/4 Mar 27, 2025 Full Review Weiting Liu Common Sense Media With grounded scriptwork and detail-oriented costume and production designs, the show will certainly appeal to cozy mystery fans who value craftsmanship over flash. Apr 2, 2025 Full Review Collin Garbarino WORLD The murder-mystery genre might feel crowded, but there’s definitely room for this refreshingly funny show. Mar 28, 2025 Full Review Emma Stefansky IGN Movies With a capable cast of supporting characters and a delightfully idiosyncratic trio of leads, the show turns the formulaic British crime procedural on its head in increasingly delightful ways. Judith B I love puzzles - not as much as Ludwig though. My favorite part: watching how the mind of a “puzzle solver” works is amazing. And, there is a perfect cast. What more can you want to be truly entertained? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/04/25 Full Review Melanie Joan O I was instantly hooked after episode one. A very unique and intriguing detective show. David Mitchell is such an amazing actor to watch. Switching deftly from comical to dramatic. Pure mastery. A real must-see TV show. I highly recommend it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/25 Full Review Avindu G A detective drama with a funny twist of intrusion. Unique circumstances of John fits surprisingly well to this heartwarming drama about family and relationships. A decent dose of witty exchanges and a unique group of supporting characters to pick-up leftovers did help the cause of this series. Impressive performances by the cast. Great vibrant visuals, strong special effects and perfect cinematography. Beautiful scenic locations. Great usage of sound effets. For the viewers who look for a drama that's both decently thrilling and funny Ludwig is the perfect series to watch. With the last episode's revelations the upcoming episodes will be even more promising. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review Matthew P. W I'm really pleasantly surprised at how much I am enjoying this! I did go into it wanting to enjoy it, as it sounds like a fun premise and I really love everything David Mitchell has done... but I was a bit cautious during the initial the buy in, as detective mysteries often veer mediocre and overplayed. This series, I'm happy to report, defies all expectations. Mitchell's character is intriguing from the start, and the overall premise is fresh. We get not only a case-of-the-week murder mystery with a fun new take on Sherlock Holmes style deductive crime solving, but also a full series arc that hooks you from the beginning... it's very cleverly constructed. The show also avoids recycling stock character tropes: the cast is lively and the roles they play are new and exciting. I especially love Lucy Betts-Taylor as Anna. Her chemistry with Mitchell is fantastic, and again, there's a newness to her role that is really refreshing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review Audience Member Smart and light hearted. Excellent production and wonderful cast. 😊 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/29/25 Full Review Scort F Best new show of the year - so far. Cleverly written, the characters are superb. Can’t wait to see how it ends. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
