In its over 20-year history, GÉANT has been building a pan-European network for the scientific community alongside its partners: 39 National Research and Education Networks (NRENs). At the heart of the European research and education e-infrastructure, GÉANT builds, among other things, a secure network, a data storage cloud, and mobility services. It thus realizes the vision of providing equal access to the scientific resource exchange network for all researchers across Europe. GÉANT’s efforts in innovation and close global cooperation are further supported and funded by the European Union through GÉANT projects (GN4-3 and GN4-3N).
Built by NRENs for NRENs and their users, GÉANT services support and expand the NREN portfolio in the areas of connectivity and network management, trust, identity, security of cloud services, and real-time communication. The scientific and educational community thus benefits from international cooperation by using services such as eduroam, eduGAIN, perfSONAR, Performance Measurement Platform, Service Provider Architecture Platform (SPA), eduMEET, etc., as well as services designed for end-institutions like NMaaS, WiFiMon, and many others.
PCSS actively participates in the GÉANT project, holding leading roles in project governing bodies, the project management board, and in many individual teams and project structures. It committedly contributes to software management, as well as the development of knowledge sharing, network support operations, and security, in order to increase its value for the scientific and educational community.
PCSS is a leader in managing software produced within the GÉANT project. Our activities include code reviews, developer training, maintaining development tools, developing a software catalog, and best practices. The effects of these actions are visible on many levels: increased software reliability thanks to identified bugs and security vulnerabilities, more efficient team performance through the implementation of best practices and tools, and the continuous enhancement of developer competencies through specialized training.
