Overview

The Peralta Shuttle service launched in Spring 2026 after students passed a resolution reinstating a transportation fee, with fees supporting two vital transportation services: AC Transit EasyPass (available for students taking 6 units or more in a semester) and a Peralta shuttle bus service (available for all students).

Summer 2026 Shuttle Program

During Week 1 of the summer program (June 22-26), there will be three shuttle vans staged at the Laney College roundabout. The vans will follow the same shuttle schedule as Spring (see "Schedule" section below).

Throughout this first week, ridership numbers will be tracked in order to determine how much the shuttle service is being utilized. This information will dictate how the program evolves over the following weeks.

If ridership demand is low during Week 1, an on-demand shuttle service may be adopted for the following week. Under this model, riders can call the shuttle number, which will be posted at each shuttle stop on every campus. Once the call is received, a driver will be dispatched to the rider's location. Depending on where the driver is at the time of the request, riders can expect an estimated wait time of approximately 15 minutes.

Routes

  • Laney College <---> College of Alameda

  • Laney College <---> Berkeley City College

  • Laney College <---> Merritt College

The shuttle service uses a “spoke and hub” model, with connections going through the hub at Laney. For example, if a student wants to get from BCC to Merritt, start with the BCC ---> Laney bus, and connect to the Laney ---> Merritt bus.

Schedule

  • Bus service is Monday – Thursday, from 7:30am to 5:30pm to start (we hope to expand the hours of service later in the semester)

  • First buses depart from Laney College at 7:30am and will depart approximately every 30 min thereafter

  • Buses will wait no more than 10 minutes after a drop-off before beginning the next trip (if there are people waiting for the bus when it arrives at the drop-off point, it may depart right after loading)

  • Expectation is two departures per hour throughout the day

  • There will be some variability in the schedule due to traffic patterns and services provided (e.g., wheelchair access will take additional time)

Eligibility to Ride

  • Must be a current student for the spring semester

  • All current students are eligible (including non-credit and dual enrollment students)

  • A valid Peralta Colleges Student ID is required

  • To access the bus, students should show the driver their Student ID and use their smartphone to create a “Smart-tag” QR code to log their presence on the bus. Each student will have their own unique Smart tag QR Code for accessing the bus.

  • Currently, service is for students only (not employees or community members)

Bus Drivers

Peralta Colleges' bus drivers - four people with smiling faces

  • Daisha Monique Dixon

  • Tyrell Darnel Barnes

  • Damon James Hadley

  • Carl Penney

The bus drivers are PCCD employees and are part of the District Service Center Facilities & Operations department, directed by Bc Hoff.

Non-Shuttle Bus Use

Since the drivers are employees and the buses are owned by Peralta, non-shuttle use is available for field trips, campus visits, sporting events, and the like. The buses made their maiden voyage January 9-11, 2026, with Carl Penney taking some MESA scholars on a trip to Southern California for university visits for students planning to transfer. It was a successful trip and saved the district – and our taxpayers – thousands of dollars compared to renting a similar service. Eventually, requests for bus service will be incorporated into “Facilitron” (the system used for facilities rental), but for now, please send your requests to Bc Hoff at [email protected] and CC Jamille Teer ([email protected]).
