Get the Plesk web management interface with your dedicated server

Plesk is a comprehensive tool available for both Linux and Windows, and is perfect for creating your web hosting server. It is especially suitable for companies, agencies and professional resellers. This platform offers a graphical interface, and can be used for managing web projects without any need for in-depth knowledge of infrastructure administration. It is simple to use and very comprehensive, enabling you to create hosting spaces for each of your websites and customers. You can also generate email servers, and set up regular backups of your data in just a few clicks.

Why choose an OVHcloud Plesk dedicated server?

Centralised user management

A single comprehensive platform you can use to manage your websites with different configurations. You manage all of your web hosting spaces in just a few clicks, with an overview of everything in the Plesk control panel. You can view the performance and statistics of each of your websites, and use them to organise any required maintenance.

As a reseller, you can create a specific space for each of your customers with their contact details, billing elements, and FTP access. This way, they can use a dedicated hosting space within your server.

Extended security

All of your web server’s settings can be controlled via the Plesk graphical interface, as well as the command line. This means you can manage each access, and choose to disable elements if you do not need them, in order to restrict entry ports. For each of your projects, you can configure an SSL certificate to strengthen security, as well as a firewall for managing incoming connections. Your Plesk dedicated server works with your choice of operating system, and you are in full control of it.

Web hosting made simple

With an intuitive interface and a number of turnkey extensions, web hosting has never been easier. You can customise your interface and customer accounts, and adapt them to your usage types. Host websites, email servers and databases without any limits — and get anti-spam you can configure to fit your needs. Your Plesk interface also includes a scheduled backup system for each of the web hosting spaces in your dedicated server.

Automation and integration

With Plesk, you can automate many repetitive tasks through scheduling (cron jobs) and custom scripts. In addition, Plesk can be integrated with other systems and platforms, allowing for smoother management of hosting services.

Support for development teams

Plesk supports common development technologies such as PHP, Python, Perl, Ruby, MySQL, PostgreSQL and more. It also allows developers to deploy a variety of applications and websites.

Plesk licences and pricing

No matter which operating system you are using on your dedicated server, a range of Plesk licences are available. You can subscribe to one of them when you order your server, or you can do so directly via the OVHcloud Control Panel. The price of your Plesk server depends on the licence you choose (WebHost or WebPro), as well as the price of the dedicated server you order.

How do I host a website on Plesk?

Here’s how you can host your website on Plesk, from logging in to your control panel to getting your website online.

1. Log in to Plesk

Launch Plesk via the URL provided by your hosting provider, often ‘https://instance.IP.address:8443’. Enter your login details to sign in.

2. Add a domain

On your dashboard, click ‘Websites & domains’. Then click ‘Add a domain’. Enter the domain name you would like to use, including all the necessary details. The DNS settings for the new domain are then set up automatically, but you have the option to make changes if necessary.

3. Downloading website files

In the ‘Websites & domains’ section, select the domain name you’ve just created. Click ‘File Manager’, which now gives you access to the domain’s root folder, commonly called ‘httpdocs’. This is where your website files should be located. You can download them via the Plesk interface, or by logging in via FTP with the login details provided by Plesk.

4. Create a database

If your website, like WordPress, needs a database, navigate to the ‘Databases’ section in the main category.

Click ‘Add a database’. Enter a name for the database, create a user, and assign it to the database. Please note down this information, because you’ll need it to set up your website.

5. Install a web application

If required, you can install a CMS like WordPress or Drupal. To do this, use the ‘Applications’ option, available via your interface and look for the CMS you want. There are often automatic setup options available to connect the application to your new database.

This is optional.

6. Email configuration

To create email addresses for your domain, click ‘Mail’ in the main menu, then ‘Create an email address’ and configure the details for any account you want.

7. Secure your website

We recommend opting for an SSL certificate. You can manage your domain’s SSL/TLS security in the ‘Websites & Domains’ section. Enable your free Let’s Encrypt certificate, or install the one you’ve purchased.

8. Test your website

Once you’ve completed the configuration, test your website by going to the saved URL. Make sure everything is working as expected.

9. Monitoring and maintenance

Plesk offers server resources and performance monitoring tools for your website. Use them to keep your website running smoothly.
