在调查研究中，他们总共整理了237个性爱动机，有的动机俗不可耐（“我无聊”），有的庄严神圣（“我想接近上帝”），有的慷慨无私（“我希望他快乐”），有的嫉恶如仇（“我惩罚他朝三暮四”）……经过统计分析，又将女性的性爱动机归为几大类。然后，专门为此书进行了大量的走访调查，以便进一步了解女性的。
在研究过程中，为了做到对女性性爱心理最深刻最丰富的理解，两位博士不断借鉴他们实验室以及其他实验室的最新科学发现。最后他们发现，女性性爱心理是一个非常有趣的课题。
