The National Archives Trust is an independent charity established to enrich people’s lives by promoting knowledge and enjoyment of the nation’s archives to the widest possible audience.
The Trust works closely with The National Archives, a non-ministerial department, and the official archive and publisher for the UK Government and for England and Wales.
Holding more than 11 million items including Domesday Book, Magna Carta, Titanic‘s SOS telegram, the world’s first disability law, suffragettes’ spoiled census returns and the passenger list from Empire Windrush, no other institution offers the chance to discover how history has shaped the country today.
The National Archives leads the archive sector in England, working closely with its counterparts in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It supports more than 2,500 archives each of which hold stories of personal, local and regional history.
