Video Maps
Video Maps are a tool to display a YouTube travel video with synchronized Google Maps and Street View. Drag and drop the marker to view any point within the journey.
To create a Video Map register for a free account, log in and then visit your Video Maps Dashboard.
You will first need to upload a video of your journey to YouTube and have a GPX format file ready containing the coordinates and times to synchronize with the video. GPS Visualiser is a useful tool to convert a range of GPS file formats to GPX.
Please let us know if you encounter any problems creating or using Video Maps. Custom project development services are also available.
Video Maps for Leaflet Update: 11 Oct 2021
• A Leaflet version of Video Maps is now available. Leaflet is an alternative API to the Google Maps API.
• The edit process is unchanged. At the bottom of the Edit page there are now links and scripts for the Leaflet version of the Video Map.
• The Leaflet version is simpler and does not use all of the options available for the Google Maps version of Video Maps.
• The map displays on start-up in the Leaflet version and uses a relief tileset with contour lines.
• The Leaflet version is mobile-optimized. In portrait mode the video displays above the map and in landscape mode the video displays to the left of the map.
• Scripts for the Leaflet version are available for any Video Maps you have already created. Just go to the Video Map Edit page and get the scripts and/or links.
