While visiting her parents, who were exobiologists investigating the existence of the Borg, a Borg cube located them, attacked the ship, and assimilated all three. Annika was designated Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01.

Rescue and Re-Humanization

After the crash-landing of her scout ship, Seven of Nine was rescued by the USS Voyager, a Federation ship stranded in the Delta Quadrant. While Voyager's emergency medical hologram was able to remove most of Seven of Nine's cybernetic implants, some proved vital to her existence as a human, including apparently, a skin-tight jumpsuit?

Assimilated By Starfleet?

Now simply going by "Seven," she became an instrumental part of Voyager's crew, ultimately helping them return to the Alpha Quadrant and Federation space.

Striking Out On Her Own

After serving on the Voyager, Seven applied to Starfleet, but was rejected as a security risk, owing to her history as a Borg drone. Instead, she joined the Fenris Rangers, a vigilante group bringing justice to a lawless portion of the Alpha Quadrant.

Q Are You?

With the help of a Starfleet legend, Admiral Jean-Luc Picard, she returned to service with Starfleet. While serving she had an encounter with the Q collective, which resulted in the removal of Seven's final cybernetic implants

Everything Old Is New Again!

Finally granted a Starfleet commission in honor of her many years of service to the Federation, Seven was ordered to change her name back to Annika Hansen. In a wry display, she still asserted her individuality by having her Borg components surgically re-attached.
