Recently flew a Wingtra Ray LiDAR mission over some of the densest vegetation I've had access to in Florida and the results were impressive. Flying 200ft AGL, 50% overlap and double grid we covered ~350 acres in a single battery 30min flight to maximize canopy and underbrush penetration. Using Trimble Business Center, classification and a cross section clearly separate heavy/medium vegetation (dark/light green) from true ground (red). End to end, this looked like ~1hour of setup, a 30min flight and ~2 hours of processing. Compared to multiple days in the field with traditional terrestrial methods, often with limited access and safety constrains, I'd say that's a win for the UAS. Fewer boots on the ground, fewer surprises and faster deliverables.
